how to vote

Are you an EU citizen living in Prague?

If you are a citizen of a European Union country and live in Czech, you can vote in Czech local (municipal) elections, provided you meet the legal requirements.

You can vote if you:

  • Are 18 years old or older by the second day of the election.
  • Are a citizen of an EU Member State.
  • Have your residence registered in Czech by either:
    • a Registration Certificate (temporary residence registration), or
    • a Permanent Residence Permit.
  • Are registered as a resident in Czech.

Please note: Citizens of countries outside the European Union (including Ukraine and the United Kingdom) cannot vote in Czech local elections under the current law.

The easiest way: Register your residence

Most EU citizens qualify by obtaining a Registration Certificate.

To apply, you will need:

  • A completed application form.
  • A valid passport or national ID card.
  • Proof of accommodation.
  • Proof of health insurance.
